If you are thinking of paying a visit to Lake Zorinsky in West Omaha, NE, you’ll be happy to know there are a number of leisure activities to enjoy. Playgrounds, baseball diamonds and football fields are just a few of the many area geared toward keeping kids active. That’s not all though, you can also stay active by taking a hike or enjoy a bicycle ride around the lake. Maybe you’re just looking for a little relaxation by doing some fishing. Good news, the fishing is great!


A very interesting and little-known fact about Lake Zorinsky in West Omaha is that it is home to one of the very few remaining native tall grass prairies in the eastern Nebraska regional area. Commonly known as Bauermeister Prairie, it was named after Fred Bauermeister who was a very wealthy landowner in his time. The Bauermeister Prairie plays host to a wide variety of fowls, wildlife, and natural vegetation.


Activities at Lake Zorinsky



Following is a short list we have compiled of fun things to do when visiting Lake Zorinsky in West Omaha. At the top of the list has to be the fishing pier at the lake which is located near the dam. The pier is easily accessible which is nice, and the fishing is amazing because of its proximity to the dam which is known to be the best fishing on the lake.


Lake Zorinsky is a whopping 255 acres which means there is plenty of areas to find that hot spot. In certain areas of the lake its depth reaches 30 feet. The depth allows for great fishing conditions year-round.


Let’s talk about hiking which is one of my personal favorite ways to spend quality time with my family and friends. The asphalt trails at Lake Zorinsky are not only ideal for hiking, they make for a great bike ride.


The lake is equestrian friendly as well and horse lovers can enjoy the outdoors while riding their horses. The trails found throughout the area are horse friendly and I have to say, there is nothing quite like taking a ride around the lake on your favorite horse.


If relaxation with your family and friends is what you desire, Lake Zorinsky will not disappoint. There happens to be an impressive, 7 picnic areas which can be reserved by the Omaha Parks Department. Don’t worry, If you forgot to make the reservation, the spots are available on a first come, first basis. But you may want to get there early.

Lake Zorinsky Offers 4 Season Fun



Once the temperatures start to fall and we move towards winter, believe it or not but the lake still has plenty to offer. The colder temperatures cause the lake to freeze over making the lake perfect for ice skating and ice fishing.  

 

If you live in Omaha or are maybe planning a visit, visiting Lake Zorinsky and enjoying all it has to offer, should be at the top of your list.


Lake Zorinsky is located in West Omaha and was named after the late U.S. Senator Edward Zorinsky. Lake Zorinsky has a surface area of 255 square acres and offers two modern playgrounds, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, a football field, hiking and bicycling trails, and a universally accessible fishing dock.
